Prop Bets: Miami Marlins VS Pittsburgh Pirates 2025-06-09

The battle of the basement dwellers is upon us, folks. The Miami Marlins (24-39) are taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates (26-40) in a matchup that's sure to be a real nail-biter. I mean, who doesn't love watching two teams that are a combined 50 games under .500?

But seriously, the Pirates are favored on the moneyline at -119, which is surprising given their 36.8% win rate as favorites. The Marlins, on the other hand, have won 37% of their games as underdogs, so maybe they've got a puncher's chance.

The pitching matchup features Eury Pérez making his first start of the season for the Marlins, while Mike Burrows takes the hill for the Pirates. The Pirates' pitching staff has a respectable 3.84 team ERA, ranking 15th in MLB, while the Marlins' staff is... well, let's just say they're still working on it, with a combined ERA of 5.04.

As for player props, I couldn't find any specific ones listed, but I'd be interested in seeing the over/under on Eury Pérez's strikeout total. The kid's got some heat, but he's also got some control issues.

The spread is set at 1.5, with the Pirates favored at -1.5 (+2.7) and the Marlins at +1.5 (-1.5). The total is set at 8.0, with the over at +1.87 and the under at -1.95.

My prediction? The Pirates will eke out a win, but it'll be a close one. Take the Marlins +1.5 and the under 8.0. And if you're feeling fancy, throw a few bucks on Eury Pérez to go over his strikeout total (whenever that becomes available).
